Marans have quickly become one of our favorite breeds. While they are best known for laying rich, chocolate-colored eggs, it’s their calm, friendly personalities that truly make them stand out.
Among the varieties, Black Copper Marans are the most sought after, as they typically produce the darkest eggs. While many people chase egg color alone, we also appreciate the beauty of the birds themselves. Our Marans flock is led by a striking Blue Copper Marans rooster. Most of our hens are Blue and Splash, with a few Black as well.
When you purchase Marans chicks or hatching eggs from us, you can expect a mix of Blue, Black, or Splash chicks—though most will hatch Blue or Splash. To give you the best chance of producing desirable egg color, we hatch only from our darkest or most beautifully speckled eggs.
That said, we cannot guarantee egg color. It is unrealistic to expect every hen to lay the darkest eggs year-round. Some hens will produce deep brown eggs, while others may lay lighter shades. Egg color in Marans is influenced by genetics and natural variation, which cannot be fully controlled.
